Ischia - an excellent holiday destination if you are looking to relax
Ischia is the 3rd most populated island in Italy begind Sicily and Sardinia. A spectacular volcanic island rich in thermal aquifers, making it one of Italy's most loved spa destination. People travel from all over the world to endulge in facials, mud treatments, massages and health treatment.
What to see - The most famous sites are the Castello Aragonese in Ischia Ponte, a medieval castle situated accross a stone bridge, an iconic image of the island. Sant'Angelo is a very prettly little fishing village, with a couple of beaches and a small selection of bars, restaurants and shops. The island has some great easily accessible beaches, the largest being Maronti which can be reached from Sant'Angelo on foot.
The main town is Ischia Porto and is the transport hub of the island. Here you will find many restaurants, bars, shops and nighlife, whilst also having a quiet quayside area of La Riva Destra.
Thermal waters - which the island is reknowned for, can be found in many places all year round. The most notible of these are the private thermal parks of Poseidon and Negombo where you can spend a day relaxing in the warm waters of pools. There are also some free thermal pools to enjoy at the Sorgeto Hot Springs in Panza.
How to get there - Ischia is approximately 30km from Naples and is served by ferries and hydrofoils connected it to ports in Naples. It takes about 1 hour and a half by ferry with it being around 1 hour by hydrofoil.
