Bardolino - fine wine & high class shopping

Nestled at the foot of the Morainic hills, at the southern end of Lake Garda, you will find the picturesque and chic resort of Bardolinio. This ever-popular town offers bags of old school charm, an idyllic lakeside location, fine shopping and waterfront dining. And of course, for wine lovers, there are plenty of opportunities to sample the ruby red Bardolino wine, for which the town is famous.

What to do

One of the big draws for visitors to Bardolino has to be its famous namesake wine. Whether that's a tour of surrounding vineyards, discovering more about its history and process in one of its fascinating museums, or simply sitting back and enjoying a glass or two in this most picturesque of settings.

Start with a trip to the Museo del Vino, situated just off the main road, within the Zeni Winery. This aromatic museum offers displays of grape baskets, cooper's tools and gigantic timber presses. There are free tastings of Zani's red, white and rose wines, or you can pay to sample some of the fine vintage wines, including barrel aged Amarone. Sample more famous, local, produce at the Museo dell'Olio d'Oliva. Situated 2km south of Bardolino in Cisano, this well laid out museum charts the history of olive oil production around Lake Garda as well as how the crop is harvested today. There is also a well stocked shop upstairs.

Back in town, a wander around Bardolino's fantastic range of shops is not to be missed. You will find everything from quality leather goods, fine arts and designer clothing. The fantastic selection draws local Italians as well as tourists, all looking for that something special.

Where to eat

There are no shortage of places to eat in Bardolino, but it's worth heading away from the local tourist traps to discover some fine local dining. For gourmet dining head to Il Giardino delle Esperidi. This intimate little osteria offers local delicacies, a seasonal menu and fantastic wine list.
