Marsala is a pleasant coastal town in western Sicily, a lovely relaxed place to visit. Recently restored, the mainly Baroque old town centre is pedestrian friendly and easy to walk round.
The town is famous for one thing, its sweet dessert wine of the same name. Noble in flavour and delicate in scent aged in precious wooden barrels and can be sampled & purchased in many bars and shops within the town. Today, together with its classical variant of Marsala, you can taste flavored variants of almond, chocolate and coffee.
Marsala boasts some beautiful beaches, where many athletes can take up kite surfing, taking advantage of the winds of the Strait of Sicily. The city is lively all year round where the restaurants and taverns match the quality of the products of its Sicilian cuisine, with notable Arab influence. The Cathedral, built on the site of an old Norman church and dedicated to Thomas a Becket, and its Archaeological Museum are also worthy of a visit.
