A delightful well preserved village in Umbria at the foot of Ingino mountain, close to the Apennines between Tuscany and Umbria. There is a great deal of historical to explore, from Roman monuments such as the theatre and the very impressive renaissance palaces. There is also a a fascinating old town which has different levels of steep streets to wander around.

The impressive Roman theatre is the towns main tourist attraction, housing upto 6,000 spectators and can be found just below the town. It dates back to the 1st century AD and has open air performances during the summer. From here there is a great views of Gubbio.

The town is well known for it homemade crafts by the locals, from ceramic, wood, wrought iron, leather making fine pieces of art. At Christmas, the slope of the mountain between the town and the mountaintop is decorated with colored lights made into the shape of a huge tree, said to be the largest in the world.

Piazza Grande is the town's main square where  there are beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. It also hosts the symbol of the town,  Consuls Palace, built in Gothic style and witness of the importance of Gubbio in medieval times. Also worth a visit is Ranghiasci Park, a dedicated green area that climbs along the old walls starting from one of the ancient gates of the city and offering one of the  best views of Gubbio.

Gubbio is located 25 miles north east of Perugia and is a charming place with plenty of history, amazing food and super friendly locals. It is regarded as one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Umbria and is a must-visit if you find yourself in the region. It is not far from Citta di Castello, Lake Trasimeno and Assisi.
